With a Schengen visa, you may enter one country and travel freely throughout the Schengen zone. Internal border controls have disappeared; there are no or few stops and checks. This means the internal air, road and train travel are handled as domestic trips, similar to travel from one US state to another. The Schengen agreement does not apply to countries dependence such as French territories; you should check your requirements. The principle of Schengen is to bring countries closer together and increase international cooperation, trade and ultimately to aim for a peaceful resolution to disputes.
